Thursday Links

Posted on December 19, 2024December 19, 2024 by John C. Goodman

In New York City, where wealthy families will stop at nothing for their children in a competitive private school system, elite tutors earn as much as $1 million a year.

A first-of-its-kind bee vaccine.

$1 million bet: Did the COVID mRNA vaccines save more lives than they killed?

Against sports betting.

Four ways to make government more efficient.

I would much rather see the COVID vaccine debate settled by transparent data than by a couple of assigned judges, but I guess that’ll never be possible.

It occurs to me that the question of whether more people were saved than killed by the COVID vaccines has something in common with the earlier link about whether more people were killed by cold than hot weather. If either is true, it would be an example of the trolley dilemma, at least insofar as the outcome is a result of deliberate action (or inaction).

For many years, our health care blog was the only free enterprise health policy blog on the internet. Then, when the NCPA closed its doors, the health blog stopped as well.

During this five-year hiatus no one else has come forward to claim the space. So, my colleagues and I have decided to restart the blog in connection with the Goodman Institute. We invite you and others to use this forum to share your views.
