Cato study: In 2021, roughly 7 percent of doctor of medicine graduates and 10 percent of doctors of osteopathy graduates were unable to care for patients because there was no residency opening for them.

Answer: allow these doctors to practice as “Assistant Physicians.”

McKinsey:  Up to $265 billion worth of care services for Medicare fee-for-service and Medicare Advantage beneficiaries could shift to the home by 2025.

Texas Legislature Debating Licensing Assistant/Associate Physicians

Texas is the latest state to consider licensing assistant physicians / associate physicians to treat patients within the state. These are not to be confused with physician assistants. The former titles are medical school graduates who have not matched to a residency program. The Texas House Bill is 2556.

  • How did we go from believing that alcohol has no health benefits to the view that it explains why the French are healthier to the view that the safest level of drinking is not a single drop?

For many years, our health care blog was the only free enterprise health policy blog on the internet. Then, when the NCPA closed its doors, the health blog stopped as well.
