    “Share of tax burden” doesn’t mean much unless adjusted for “share of income.” Which of the two grew faster during the given period?

    You have to include payroll taxes when you compare the tax burdens of the rich vs. the working class.

    When you add in the payroll taxes — which the rich largely escape, in terms of Social Security — the overall percentages are much closer.
