Supreme Court Justice Tells a Whopper

Posted on July 6, 2023 by John C. Goodman

“For high-risk Black newborns, having a Black physician more than doubles the likelihood that the baby will live.”

 Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson

A footnote cites a friend-of-the-court brief by the Association of American Medical Colleges, which makes the same claim in almost identical language. It, in turn, refers to a 2020 study. The study makes no such claims. (Emphasis added)

Ted Frank, Wall Street Journal

Dogbert, making presentation: “Studies show that made-up statistics are 91% more credible than actual facts”.

Voice from audience: “How many studies?”

    Dogbert: “Fifty-three.”

For many years, our health care blog was the only free enterprise health policy blog on the internet. Then, when the NCPA closed its doors, the health blog stopped as well.

During this five-year hiatus no one else has come forward to claim the space. So, my colleagues and I have decided to restart the blog in connection with the Goodman Institute. We invite you and others to use this forum to share your views.

John C. Goodman,
