Update on VA Care

Posted on May 27, 2024May 27, 2024 by John C. Goodman

“Initially, people were always required to get their care inside of the VA.  The VA started having really long wait times, or wasn’t providing adequate service, or a number of reasons why people decided they wanted to get outside of the VA.

And the Trump administration said, great, you want to go get community care, we’re going to create a system for you to go outside of the VA,” Congressman Brian Mast (R-FL) Mast explained.

“Now the Biden administration is saying, we don’t want to allow that to happen,” he said. Mast sent a letter to VA Secretary Denis McDonough last week demanding an explanation for this apparent “departure from long-standing practices.”

Remember before the first Gulf War when the VA was held up as a model for what an American Single Payer Health Care System would be like? Advocates stopped using the VA once it’s faults were revealed.

Yeah, I miss reading Uwe’s columns. I probably disagreed with more than I agreed, but they were always thought-provoking.

For many years, our health care blog was the only free enterprise health policy blog on the internet. Then, when the NCPA closed its doors, the health blog stopped as well.

During this five-year hiatus no one else has come forward to claim the space. So, my colleagues and I have decided to restart the blog in connection with the Goodman Institute. We invite you and others to use this forum to share your views.
