Woke Medicine is Hazardous to Your Health

Posted on August 7, 2022 by John C. Goodman

Virtually all medical schools admit black and Hispanic applicants with scores on the Medical College Admission Test that would be all but disqualifying if presented by white and Asian applicants, and some schools waive the MCATs entirely for select minority students. Courses on racial justice and advocacy are flooding into medical school curricula; students are learning more about white privilege and less about cell pathology.

This is ridiculous and embarrassing; woke medicine, really? Maybe woke medical licenses soon? We need medical graduates to work in rural and inner city settings, and we must recruit and retain staff somehow to do so, as incentives can never overcome the existing reality of practice economics. The alternatives would be a national healthcare that assigns people where needed, or making people travel even further outside their communities for care, surely even less desirable solutions?

For many years, our health care blog was the only free enterprise health policy blog on the internet. Then, when the NCPA closed its doors, the health blog stopped as well.

During this five-year hiatus no one else has come forward to claim the space. So, my colleagues and I have decided to restart the blog in connection with the Goodman Institute. We invite you and others to use this forum to share your views.
