Friday Links

Posted on August 5, 2022August 4, 2022 by John C. Goodman

Why are there so few Covid cases in Africa, compared to the rest of the world? Speculative

Hospitals are still evading the law on transparency.

Can a pharmacist deny a patient a morning-after pill?

How the clothes you wear can affect your health. Futuristic

More reasons not to tax people with the highest incomes. Insightful

Are Democrats robbing Medicare to pay for Obamacare?

The last headline about on robbing Medicare is somewhat misleading, in my view.
If we spend an extra $63 billion a year on ACA subsidies, and if these new subsidies are debt financed, how does this rob Medicare? Even during the installation of the ACA back in 2010 or so, the Medicare fee schedule was barely touched, and the Medicare fees paid to Part C carriers were also barely touched. (although they had been threatened with reductions.)

There is an argument that debt financing is wrong, and I respect that. But debt financing has no impact on Medicare at this time.

For many years, our health care blog was the only free enterprise health policy blog on the internet. Then, when the NCPA closed its doors, the health blog stopped as well.

During this five-year hiatus no one else has come forward to claim the space. So, my colleagues and I have decided to restart the blog in connection with the Goodman Institute. We invite you and others to use this forum to share your views.
