Yglesias: Government regulations and dental insurance scams combine to hurt the dental patients.
How sick are we? Nearly half of American adults have hypertension, 40 percent have high cholesterol and more than one-third have pre-diabetes.

SMU teachers pay $347/month for Blue Cross until they get cancer and can’t work the REQUIRED 30 hours a week, then the COBRA premium EXPLODES to $3,004/month when she has no hair or income. Usually, SMU waits 30 days before sending the COBRA notice so this poor baldheaded Mother owes 2 premiums to continue or $6,008! (Does this cause depression?) (Should Politicians take bribes from Blue Cross as HUSH money?)
I personally showed this to Ron DeSantis and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and her husband at Ron DeSantis’ New Years Eve Party in Des Moines. I showed the Iowa Governor 2 School districts that made single-parent Mother employees pay over $1,400/month to add (1) child to the Blue Cross MONOPOLY! (Is this depressing for single-parent Mothers?)
I showed Mrs. DeSantis that in the Free Market the Good Hands People have “Child Only” insurance for $63/month! Casey knows Iowa teachers pay $1,400/month to add 1 child to Evil Blue Cross! Mrs. DeSantis can keep a secret! Women can be bought off too.
This means a lot of uninsurable children who have a higher death rates. Mrs. DeSantis doesn’t care about other people’s children, pretty selfish right?
America’s 1st tax-free HSA enrolled at Save101.com. It will be running soon but until then we have Save201.com If the politicians and the press won’t tell you, we will!

[From the linked article] “Previous studies reported that more optimistic individuals are less likely to suffer from chronic diseases”
I recall reading in NEJM years ago that when your physician begins a visit by asking “How are you feeling today?” he’s not just being friendly. He’s asking a clinical question.

REQUIRED EXPLODES HUSH MONOPOLY!
It’s like an ancient all caps language for which no Rosetta Stone has yet been found. Maybe ZWoof will find it one day.
I love the Matthew Yglesias article on dentistry. While writing my article for yesterday I ran across a WSJ article explaining how dentists wages have skyrocketed in recent years. The anecdote WSJ used was a family physician whose brother-in-law was a dentist and made nearly 3 times what he did. I have to go to the dentist tomorrow for a cleaning and I am afraid it will be my last at that dentist. His concierge fee increase 50% and the discount that comes with the membership has likely decreased.
When I retired in 2011 I decided not to buy the retiree group dental my company offered. The annual premium was a lot less than the cost of 4 yearly exams, 2 each for my wife and me., at the University of Connecticut dental school. The company plan had a $2000 annual benefit max so we would have been self insured above that amount anyway. 12 years on, our strategy is working fine.
Making dishwashers great again!
When we moved into our new house, we left behind a 15-year-old Bosch that would run a load in around 70 minutes. The 6-year-old dishwasher in our new house leaked and we ended up shopping for a new one. Bosch dishwashers no longer have heating elements, so we chose GE Profile. It takes nearly 3 hours to run a load. We hear the same thing is also true for new washing machines and we’re going to need a new one in a couple more years.
